Herbal Kin
A grassroots, liberation-focused community of practice for budding clinical herbalists across the world.
Focus Areas
Once a month, we meet virtually to connect, learn and support one another.
Case Studies
The heart of Herbal Kin lies in case study reviews and collaborative feedback. In each meeting, a member presents a de-identified client case to the group. Together, we explore and discuss aspects of clinical intake, consultation, assessment, and protocol development, focusing on the areas where the presenter seeks support. This process fosters collective learning, allowing us to benefit from each other's diverse clinical experiences and, ultimately, to enhance the care we provide to our clients.
Herb of the Month
Like other herbal learning communities, we highlight an "herb of the month" that is accessible to everyone and suited to the current season. Members are encouraged to engage with the herb through direct experiences—whether by working with it in their practice, meditating on its properties, or exploring it organoleptically. When we reconvene, we share our insights and reflections, grounding our knowledge in both intuition and experience. We believe that developing a personal relationship with the plants in our materia medica is vital before recommending them to clients and communities.
Practical Support & Accountability
Running an accessible, anti-oppressive, and financially sustainable clinical practice can be a complex undertaking. Every other meeting, members have the opportunity to share updates about their practices and seek guidance in areas where they need support. By exchanging ideas about what has worked (or hasn’t), we learn from one another’s experiences and uplift each other's work. Clinical herbalism can sometimes feel isolating, but through Herbal Kin, we intentionally root ourselves in community, fostering collective growth and mutual encouragement.
Generative Discussions
In alternating meetings, we create ample space for members to bring their pressing herbal or related questions to the group. These discussions are rich and wide-ranging, guided by our shared principles to ensure everyone feels respected, valued, and heard. This time is essential for addressing the complexities and limitations of herbalism, such as the appropriation of Indigenous healing traditions within Western herbalism, while imagining what a liberatory and anti-oppressive herbal praxis can look and feel like.
